Phil is an experienced and knowledgeable golf swing coach, having been trained by the
PGA over 15 years ago.
Being a BPS Certified specialist in Emotional Intelligence, he became a member of
The International Golf Psychologists Association (IGPA), and was trained to Master
level by Dr. Gregg Steinberg of the US Golf Teachers Federation (IGPA).
Prior to joining the Coaching Team at Bletchingley Golf Club, he was teaching
professional at Redhill & Reigate Golf Club until its closure and prior to that, worked with the Junior Coaching Team for Sussex County.
Whilst at Redhill and Reigate he built a Junior Academy of over 50 Juniors ( age range 5-15 yrs) and introduced a ‘Passport of Structured Learning’ to ensure that young golfers at all levels could progress at their own pace and without stress. This resulted in the Senior Team winning the Surrey Fairways Trophy at the first attempt and some of players moving on to become County players or better.
During this period he co-authored the book ‘Keep it Simple for Kids’ with his long-term friend and colleague, Steve Furlonger, which received approval by the PGA and was featured in local newspapers.
Phil’s coaching philosophy with golfers of ALL ages and standards, is to focus on the
development of sound fundamentals and keeping everything simple and easy to understand. He believes that every golfer should develop their own way of swinging a golf club and understand it.
With every session, Phil includes aspects of the ‘Mental Game’ because 90% of faults at every level of the sport (amateur to professional), occur as a result of poor fundamentals
and/or dysfunctional thinking / decision-making. Ensuring, therefore, that a player’s physical skills are developed in balance with their self-talk is critical for both enjoyment and consistency in Golf.
Having an interest in ‘special needs ‘ golfers, he is currently coaching the East Grinstead &
Crawley Golf Development Group.

Unless a player requires a ‘quick fault fix’, Phil recommends that his clients purchase a
3 or 5 lesson package. This allows time for any new skills to develop and practice drills
to work effectively.
